We know that black and white are opposite pairs. Can we expand the set of opposite pairs to other colors? Can we find the opposite of red? The answer is easy. We need to remind ourselves of the colors of the rainbow:
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
This is the sector of the electromagnetic spectrum in the visible region. In going from left to right energy increases, while going from right to left wavelength increases. According to our scheme, two colors are opposite if they have opposite properties. This gives the following pairs.
(red, violet), (orange, indigo), (yellow, blue), and (green, green)
We see that green is its own opposite.
