I’m very disappointed by mathematics journals. Every time I submit a paper, it is rejected. It says it is meaningless, nothing new in it, or discusses trivialities. It is true my background is not in mathematics but I’m a Ph.D. in physics and have peer-reviewed papers in physics. In leisure, I work on prime numbers. I’m not attempting to solve open problems, which may alert the editors, such as the Reimann hypothesis or Goldbach’s conjecture.
In one paper, I constructed prime numbers without using the usual definition of prime number that it is divisible by itself and one. I very nicely derived that the first prime number is 2 and the second is 3 etc. This paper is entitled, “Construction of Prime Numbers Using the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic.” I submitted this paper to Notes on Number Theory and Discrete Mathematics. The reviewer wrote:
Following the terminology used in the paper, we can state that the paper is fundamentally meaningless, because it is meaningless. Therefore, it must be rejected because it is written in a way to be rejected.
In another paper, I express a natural number as an array which involves only the exponents occurring in the prime factorization of that integer. The bases, which are prime numbers, occurring in the factorization do not appear in the array. This simplifies the computation. I also prove a number of useful theorems. I also submitted this paper to the Journal of Integer Sequences. The editor promptly replied within an hour. He wrote:
I’m sorry, but these are utter trivialities that no mathematics journal
would publish.
I may discuss utter trivialities but does this mean that doors are closed for me. If I’m creating interesting ideas what should I do with that? I’m not writing papers for grants or promotion. Even I did Ph.D. with no planning that one day I’ll get a job. I have some crazy ideas and they are more important to me. I’m not working for winning prizes or fame. I solve small problems but different than mainstream research.
My work can be found on Researchgate.
